All the news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford this weekend…
Every morning we bring you a round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United, and this weekend was no exception. To read our United-specific morning news you can find our Saturday report here and our Sunday report here.
One piece of news we have since picked up on is the two separate stories linking current United strikers with new long-term deals.
While it is currently little more than speculation, Rooney in particular has been outstanding so far this season, and it appears his willingness to leave Old Trafford is now well and truly behind him.
Getting Javier Hernandez to commit long-term may be a trickier prospect, given the players he is competing with for a regular starting birth. But if Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward can secure the futures of both forwards, United can focus on strengthening further back…something that is very much required.
Whether those new arrivals will be in January or next summer remains to be seen, but United coach Phil Neville believes there is no time to waste.
In an interview with the BBC’s Football Focus, and reported by Goal.com, Neville said, “We need to keep reinvesting in the squad because if you stand still in this league you get left behind.”
Whether Moyes can find the appropriate players in January only time will tell. But a new midfielder is surely a priority.
One such player linked with United this weekend is very much one for the future – Dundee United’s 17-year-old attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld.
The Sunday People reports that Moyes sent Jimmy Lumsden to check on the player last week; although with a reported valuation of £5million, it will be interesting to see if United – or any of the other apparently interested parties – make their move after Christmas.
