Liverpool weekend round-up: New signing says he must do better & Cissokho wants to stay

All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has spoken of his hope at being fit for Tuesday’s international friendly against Germany.

In quotes published by the Telegraph the England man said, “I’ve had a lot of treatment (the) last few days. I’ve been working hard to make sure I’m okay.

I’m going to go out on the training field today and I’m raring to go for the game.”

After missing Friday’s defeat to Chile, Sturridge will be hoping to continue his fine recent form when one of the best sides in world football comes to town.

He is not the only Liverpool player to have been speaking this weekend.

Aly Cissokho has given an interview to the Reds’ official website, in which he expressed his desire to remain at the club long-term.

The player who is currently on loan from Valencia said, “It’s a great source of pride for me every day to be able to play with players like this and to represent a big club like Liverpool.

I am very happy to be here and I hope to stay here.”

At the end of the season, Brendan Rodgers must decide whether to make the deal permanent or look elsewhere in his pursuit of a new long-term left-back.

And another summer arrival has been speaking about the club, this time Iago Aspas.

The forward is currently out with a torn thigh muscle. But the Spaniard told the club’s website about his hopes for the remainder of the season.

I think I can improve,” he said. “I am happy with the team’s level but not so much individually because I think I can do a lot better.

First I want to recover from my injury and afterwards I can use my qualities better and exploit them better as a centre forward.”

Given the form of Sturridge and Luis Suarez, Aspas will have to do something pretty special to get back into the team when he is finally ready to do so.
