Arsenal weekend round-up: Ozil left Real with 'I'm off', Bendtner's Barca ambition and flu strikes again

All the news and gossip from the past 48 hours at The Emirates.

Carlo Ancelotti has continued to lay into Mesut Ozil - with seemingly no reason.

The former Chelsea boss, obviously still upset at Arsenal poaching one of his most talented players, has stated:

“Ozil wasn't comfortable. I knew he'd been speaking with another club because he wanted to leave. Mesut understood that he had competition, that he wouldn't be able to play every game - and 'I'm off' was his answer. I prefer to have Angel Di Maria for the team's balance. Di Maria is better than Ozil for group dynamics.”

Nicklas Bendtner has confirmed he wants to leave in January. He has stated he doesn’t mind taking a pay-cut to facilitate such a move but that he just wants to enjoy his football again.

But he went on to say, extraordinarily, that he could envisage his career taking him to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Alexandre Pato continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal this week. The Brazilian striker has fallen foul of the fans and management at Corinthians - and is said to be keen on a move.

He is reportedly available for £10 million.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will not return before the end of the year.

The former Southampton midfielder suffered a nasty knee injury on the opening day of the season against Aston Villa and it now appears the problem is taking longer to heal than originally thought - and ‘The Ox’ has reportedly been told to expect to remain on the side-lines until 'well into 2014.'

Aaron Ramsey joins the list of players to have picked up a flu this week.

The Arsenal camp has been ravaged by the infection - which first affected Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky before the Manchester United game last weekend.

Mesut Ozil and Nicklas Bendtner also suffered with the bug on international duty.

And now Aaron Ramsey pulled out of the Wales team to play Finland last night at the last minute - after suffering with the ‘Arsenal Flu’.

Mesut Ozil will not play against England on Tuesday - after German coach Jogi Low decided to give him a rest for the friendly.

Arsenal are said to be ready to join the race for Italian forward Alessio Cerci - with Manchester United also said to be keen on the £16 million rated Torino player.

The former Roma and Fiorentina player is now an Italian international - and has caught the eye with eight goals in 12 matches this campaign.

Wojciech Szczesny has been handed a new contract at the club this week. It comes after he regained form this season and after a week or so of speculation surrounding such a deal.

The Pole has signed a ‘long-term’ deal and says he is happy to be part of the ‘Arsenal family’.
