Ozil, Mertesacker and now Ramsey - the Arsenal flu strikes again

Ramsey Celebrates 2013

Aaron Ramsey is the latest Arsenal player to pick up a bug - following in the footsteps of Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Nicklas Bendtner and Tomas Rosicky.

Wales drew 1-1 to Finland this evening, after newspaper headlines dream Riku Riski scored a last minute equaliser at the Cardiff City Stadium to leave the Welsh fans stunned - well those that weren’t celebrating thrashing Argentina at rugby that is.

This was the first game of Chris Coleman’s renewed reign as Head Coach of the Welsh national team - and he was probably looking forward to pairing the world’s most expensive player and one of the planet’s most in-form players in midfield with Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey both expected to play.

Ramsey has been in absolutely superb form so far this term - and the idea of pairing the two was likely a thought that had Coleman wringing his hands in excitement.

Until, Ramsey was struck down by the most contagious disease on the planet.

We had SARS, we had Bird Flu and we had Swine Flu … well get the Tamiflu ready because now here comes the dreaded Arsenal Flu.

First it was Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky - both players missed the game against Manchester United as they were laid up in bed with the illness.

Then there was Mesut Ozil. He arrived for international duty with Germany suffering with the bug - and in time he recovered, but only enough to play half an hour for his nation against Italy last night.

There was also Nicklas Bendtner. He was struck down by the virus whilst with the Danish national team, and was put in quarantine in order to risk infecting his Danish colleagues.

And now Ramey has also contracted the virus on international duty with Wales.

He was pulled out of the squad at the last minute with the bug - which left him unable to train yesterday.

Who is next? Szczesny? Gibbs? Cazorla? Giroud?

Who knows, but one thing is for sure…nobody is safe!
