Talking about Arsenal players giving away penalties is something of a sore subject right now - what after Laurent Koscielny’s horror show last night. The Frenchman, who is used to his moments of madness, failed to the point of self-destruction last night by giving away a penalty and being sent off against Ukraine in Kiev.
But there is some good news from Arsenal today, as the long proposed contract agreement with Wojciech Szczesny has finally been confirmed.
The Polish goalkeeper has signed on the dotted line of the agreement - expected to fetch him a figure in the region of £100k-a-week.
The stopper, who made his breakthrough on loan at Brentford, has agreed a long-term contract with the club and said of the deal:
“I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I’m so happy to be committing my long-term future here. I’ve been at this Club for over seven years now and I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here.’’
The contract extension demonstrates a real show of faith in his talents from Arsene Wenger and co - after he struggled with his form last term.
But he has been impeccable this season - and has earned the chance to be the long-term solution between the sticks for The Gunners.
The new deal has also got several of his first-team buddies Tweeting in congratulations especially Jack Wilshere.
He has sent a number of Tweets in the keepers direction - even dubbing him the best stopper in the league.
But it is the one referring to a penalty against Liverpool that got our attention.
Here is the Tweet in question…with accompanying video beneath...
I think he gave the penalty away just to show off! http://t.co/WYcumzYNFb— Jack Wilshere (@JackWilshere) November 16, 2013
