French press award Arsenal defender Koscielny 2/10 for Ukraine disaster

Laurent Koscielny gave away a penalty and was sent off against Ukraine last night.

You probably already know by now that last night will be one that France and Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will want to forget fairly immediately.

The French national team have made life very difficult for themselves, once again, by conceding twice away from home without as much as an away goal in reply - leaving them on the brink of elimination from the World Cup in Brazil next summer - before even boarding the flight.

Credit to the Ukrainian’s - who we know are a very talented bunch through experience, they harried and harangued Les Bleus into submission and frustration and were fully deserving of victory in Kiev - in front of a partisan crowd.

But Koscielny was certainly a helping factor.

He was all over the shop all game, failing to handle the stocked movement of striker Roman Zozulya throughout the fixture.

In the end that bubbled over, when he outright bundled the Ukrainian striker to the ground inside his own penalty area to give away a penalty - which Andriy Yarmolenko smashed home to make it 2-0.

He then proceeded to lose his temper with Oleksandar Kucher, who himself was also sent off in the game, and lashed out angrily - raising his arms and receiving a red card as a result.

The performance was certainly not forgiven by the French media. For example, Le10 Sport have rewarded him just 2/10 for his display - such is the incredulity at his woeful display.

The only good news for French fans is that he is now suspended for the home leg on Tuesday - which, if he had played like this in, France would have had no chance.
