Five Chile players for England to watch out for

Ahead of this week's international friendly we pick out five players who could help the South American team spring an upset, including a Manchester United youngster.

Friday night’s meeting between England and Chile may only be a friendly but there is a chance for both teams to learn something from the game.

Roy Hodgson will get a better look at Fraser Forster in goal whilst a host of young players like Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez will also be given the chance to experience life with the national team even if they don’t feature, for Chile it will be a chance to test themselves against a good side before heading to the World Cup.

Chile head to Brazil following a successful qualifying campaign in which they won 9 games and finished third in the CONMEBOL qualifying, they are also ranked 12th in the world at present only two places below England, just another reason why many are tipping them to be something of a dark horse next summer.

With that said here are five of the most dangerous players in their squad:

1. Alexis Sanchez – possibly the most recognised of the Chilean starting 11 thanks not only to his performances in the last World Cup or his phenomenal scoring record during the qualifiers but because he is the currently lighting up Europe with his Barcelona teammates. Sanchez has real pace and a deft touch meaning that he can both create and finish chances, he’s the real danger in Chile’s hopes and giving him time on the ball could spell trouble for the Three Lions.

2. Mauricio Isla – the 25 year-old Juventus player is perhaps one of the most versatile players in the Chile squad, capable of playing as an attacking full back or higher up the pitch in midfield, this tough-tackling player will look to control the game for Chile and make space for Sanchez for whom he has also played club football with. His 40 national caps shown that he is established and must be taken seriously.

3. Eduardo Vargas - Of late the Chilean forward has been in red hot form, scoring five times since his move from Napoli to Gremio, netting five times this season, he also found the net twice in a 2-2 draw with Spain in September so he knows how to play against a big team and he will hope to add to the ten international goals he has against Roy Hodgson’s men on Friday.

4. Angelo Henriquez – Now this may be a player that some of you will have heard of, the 19 year-old is currently on loan from Manchester United to Real Zaragoza where he is beginning to make headlines, the talented striker has scored five times as they look to make a return to La Liga following relegation last season, he leads the line in Spain but can he do it for the national side?

5. Jean Beausejour – Arguably the most well-known of the current Chile squad on these shores, Beausejour played several seasons in the Premier League with Birmingham City before moving to current club Wigan Athletic in 2012, the player who operates mainly on the left of midfield will have played may of the England Squad at domestic level and is known for his long-range shooting and passing, if he starts then he should be a real test for the England full-backs.

England fans, do you expect Roy Hodgson’s men to triumph on Friday?
