A round up of news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
In transfer news, Liverpool have been reported as having interest in is 17-year-old Richairo Zivkovic of Groningen. The teenager has been compared in the Netherlands to Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben, one of the best wingers in the world. His agent has said he’s ready for a change.
The stories keep coming thick and fast with FC Schalke’s Dennis Aogo linked with Anfield in the Express. The left-back could be a good long term replacement to Jose Enrique in the current side with Aly Cissokho only at the club on loan from Spanish side Valencia.
It’s also the Express which suggests Liverpool are still in the hunt for Atletico Madrid front man Diego Costa. The Express suggests the forward will be available for around £20 million next summer although Liverpool will face competition from Chelsea and Arsenal.
Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has said he appreciates and respects the competition for places at Anfield but he is looking to win back his starting place. Allen has struggled to become a regular fixture under Brendan Rodgers this season.
“I’m working hard and waiting patiently for my chance, but Liverpool is a massive club and we are having a great season,” he told the club’s official website.
Former Liverpool player Patrik Berger has backed the club to get into the Champions League. Brendan Rodgers has said several times this season that a top four finish is the priority for the team.
“They are doing really well and if they can stay there over the Christmas period and then make a few additions then they can keep going. If you can get into the Champions League you will attract the best players,” Berger told the Mirror.
That Champions League dream is something that Martin Skrtel says everyone at the club is focused on achieving.
“All of us believe that this season we can stay towards the top positions and get back into Europe. To play in the Champions League is the dream for every player,” he told the Liverpool website.
Barcelona star Xavi says he would love for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina to replace Victor Valdes at the Nou Camp. Valdes has shown no intention of going back on his decision to leave the Spanish champions at the end of the current season.
Former Liverpool star Jan Molby has identified Lars Bender of Bayer Leverkusen as the player Brendan Rodgers should target this winter, suggesting the German ticks all of the boxes.
“My suggestion would be for Liverpool to go after Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender. There are a lot of top players in Germany and I look at Bender and believe he is the real deal,” wrote Molby in the Liverpool Echo.
Another former Liverpool player has also urged Rodgers to make a signing, with Mark Lawrenson urging the boss to sign a replacement for Steven Gerrard as one of his main priorities.
