Chelsea: Official top 3 Premier League players so far for 2013-14

Eden Hazard Dribbling

One Chelsea legend and two of his pretenders feature.

Chelsea were many's tip for the title once Jose Mourinho agreed to return to the club in the summer, but it appears this time round a title shot may not be so straightforward. Currently in fourth place, and yet to find their groove, their manager has already warned that the league is much stronger than it was in his first stint at the club. But, at just four points off the league leaders, once Chelsea click they may just race into an unassailable lead. To do that, they will need EA Sports' top three players, as laid out below, to raise and hold their game.

(See link for a breakdown of how EA Sports compile their player data)

Top 3 players so far:

1. Eden Hazard

Now he has sorted out his timekeeping, this young Belgian should be able to go on and have a splendid season. Probably the best attacking player the Blues have on their books, the onus is on him to try and replicate the dominant goalscoring form he displayed in France for Lille.

Average away index 14, Overall index score 253

2. Oscar

Any player that ousts Juan Mata from the team, however controversial that decision may seem, is going to be decent, and in a team with an abundance of 'number 10s', the young Brazilian is Jose Mourinho's first choice. Early form indicated that the Portuguese might have been on to something.

3. Frank Lampard

Now his good friend has returned as manager, Lampard is quite capable of being gradually eased through this and a couple more seasons at least, all while remaining a key midfielder. Less likely to play regularly, but still capable of covering decent ground in a game, don't be surprised to see the England man make it to 40 such is his dedication to the game.
