Vermaelen future, Rosicky contract and Wenger laying down the law on England star

Rosicky V Blackburn

All the morning news from Arsenal FC including Arsene Wenger, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Thomas Vermaelen.

The Express have some rather interesting pictures today of what appear to be intense talks between England boss Roy Hodgson and Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger. England are currently using Arsenal’s London Colney base after a sickness bug scare at St Georges Park - and Wenger utilised the proximity in order to have a word with Hodgson and England medical chief Ian Beasley about Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere is recovering from an ankle problem, and Wenger is reported to have been seeking reassurances that he would only feature against Chile - giving him a full week to recover for next weekend.

Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky will receive a new Arsenal contract automatically this season - if he plays 25 games for the club.

The injury-prone midfielder has recently returned to action for the club, and put in an excellent display against former team Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League win in Germany.

But he is in the final year of his deal - which means he will be free to discuss a transfer elsewhere from January under the Bosman ruling.

However if he manages to play 25 games for the club, he will see his contract automatically renewed for another year.

Rosicky, who has a long history of injury problems, featured just 16 times for the Gunners last season.

Thomas Vermaelen has refused to comment on his future with the club during a press conference ahead of tonight’s Belgium v Colombia friendly match.

Vermaelen got his first start in the Premier League this season against Manchester United on Sunday, but the club captain is no longer a regular due to the flourishing partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

But when asked about his future, he had this to say:

"I don't want to speak about the situation because if I do I make it worse, so I don't want to speak," he told Sky Sports.

"It is not about my situation it is about the team and they are doing well, it is not about me.''

He also confirmed, that despite a calf issue the other day, he is fit to play this evening.
