Some of the key stories involving Liverpool this Thursday morning.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will miss tomorrow’s England friendly with Chile but he could play a part in England’s match against Germany on Tuesday after taking a pain killing injection for a hip injury. The club is said to be happy for Gerrard to have the anti-inflammatory injections according to several reports in the press.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he wants to keep his defence fresh after both Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho missed Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Fulham at the weekend.
Rodgers is attempting to keep the players fresh and he told the Liverpool Echo: ‘The players are working very well and very hard on a daily basis but I need to give oxygen to some players, so they can see a light at the end of the tunnel. It is important that I use the players well.
‘Kolo has been sensational since he’s been in but Daniel Agger is a top player. I just need to balance the team out when I can.’
Midfielder Joe Allen says he is going to try and follow the lead of Martin Skrtel in order to try and break back into Liverpool’s first team.
Allen has had his fair share of injury problems, and the good form of Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson means that his chances could be limited.
But Allen told the Liverpool Daily Post: ‘Martin is the perfect example for anyone who feels frustrated or impatient when they are not in the side.
‘He’s done brilliantly and my idea is to do the same. Dealing with not being in the team can be tough, but it’s part and parcel of football.
‘There will be occasions when you are out of the side. You do feel frustrated that you are not playing as much as you would like.’
The 25-year-old is said to command a fee of around £7m.
