Tottenham: Official top 3 Premier League players so far for 2013-14

Two new signings, one much maligned, make it alongside academy graduate Andros Townsend.

Spurs hint at being on the cusp of having a great team, they just need AVB to figure out his best midfield and let that certainty fill those chosen players with confidence. The openness of the Premier League this year may mean that six or seven teams remain in with a shout of a title shot, and Tottenham are certainly one of that group. If they can figure out a way of utilising the attacking ability of Lamela and Eriksen, and marry it to the undoubted goalscoring potential of their strikers, the rest of the league may have problems.

Top 3 players so far – Tottenham

1. Andros Townsend

Spurs couldn't have found a better Bale replacement if they would have scoured the entire world. Townsend has impressed in both the white of Tottenham and England, and will seek to turn more of his long range shots, which often test the goalkeeper or fly narrowly wide, into goals.

2. Roberto Soldado

Has endured heavy criticism since failing to replicate his Valencia form on quite the same scale at Spurs. Should be given more time to settle in, especially as he is having to adjust to Villas-Boas' preferred playing style. Time will tell if this playing style will adjust to try and bring out his goalscoring ability, though EA Sports still rate him as the number two Spurs player.

3. Paulinho

People forget that, having moved from Brazil, Paulinho has had a much bigger jump to make in terms of quality of regular opposition. The Brazilian has nevertheless managed to impress with his engine, his pressing and his ability to take up goalscoring positions, and is likely to have a much stronger second half of the season.
