Are Rooney and RvP becoming more potent than Liverpool's SAS?

Manchester United star believes his partnership with Dutchman is bearing sweet fruit.

Liverpool may have SAS - the productive partnership of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez - but Manchester United have RooVP, the blossoming pairing of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, with the latter believing that their combined creativity and hard-work maintained on the training ground are two reasons why they are now producing consistent goals.

'The main thing for any forward [is to try] to work together [with your partner] to score and create goals,' said powerful Englishman Rooney to the club's official website.

'It’s great for the team if myself and Robin can create chances for each other and score goals that are helping us to win matches. It’s really enjoyable for us as players to play that way. We’re both creative players and I think that’s why we’re working well. We’ve started the season in good form, but we’re always looking to be better on the pitch.'

Combined, Rooney and van Persie are responsible for 18 goals/assists from 1,657 minutes of Premier League football (one in every 92 minutes). As a comparison, a Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez pairing has been directly responsible for 19 goals from 1,513 collective minutes (one goal/assist every 79 minutes) while a Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo partnership has thus far provided 18 goals from 1,375 minutes (one every 76 minutes).

Regardless of statistics, Rooney stresses that the bigger goal is operating at peak efficiency as a team, rather than an individual or as a strike force. However, he also mentions that he is enjoying his thriving nature.

'I’ve said all along that I just want to play football and I feel I’ve started the season well and scored a few goals and I’m creating chances for my team-mates too. I’m enjoying that and I want to put all my focus on trying to help the team get back towards the top of the table. That’s the aim for us all and if I can contribute to that then it’d be great.'
