A brief look at the progress of Cheslea players serving their time with other clubs
Christian Atsu opened the scoring with a penalty before Havenaar and Propper could finish the scoring for the Eastern Netherlands side. Patrick Van Aanholt and Lucas Piazon also started the game and played very well, Gael Kakuta came on as a last minute substitution and defender Sam Hutchinson had to watch from the bench as his team-mates stormed to victory.
The progression of Vitesse could be an interesting watch for Chelsea fan’s as they look to spot some potential talent for the future, and could even watch them oust Dutch giants Ajax from their title fight this season as things currently stand.
Romeu was an unused sub for Valencia as they frustratingly drew to Valladolid and missed a penalty to boot, the 22-year-old has been sparsely used by the Spanish giants this season, and can only claim to making four appearances so far this season.
Courtois showed himself to be aerially dominant in Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 away draw with Villareal on Sunday, but will have been disappointed to concede so late in the game, when Ikechukwu Uche slotted home from the right hand side of the six yard box to make it 1-1.
In England, there were not many headliners as Belgium frontman Romelu Lakaku had a quiet game during a goalless draw against Crystal Palace and couldn’t carry on his momentum from previous games, Victor Moses came on as a substitute for Liverpool during their 4-0 win over Fulham and Todd Kane was the only loanee in the Championship to start the game as Nathaniel Chalobah and Josh McEachran found themselves on the bench for the weekend’s games.
Elsewhere, the impressive Thorgan Hazard continued his scoring streak and scored the deciding penalty in the Europa League during mid-week, leaving his current side Zulte Waregem with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition.
