Luka Modric has insisted that his impressive start to the 2013/14 campaign is down to his state of mind.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric has claimed that his impressive form for Real Madrid this term has been down to the fact that he is happy in the Spanish capital.
The 28-year-old endured a tough start to life at Santiago Bernabeu, being named the club’s worst signing of last season.
However, and upturn in performances during this campaign under Carlo Ancelotti has seen him become one of the key players for Los Blancos.
“I’m playing well because I am happy and I am content,” considered Modric to Croatian reporters this week.
“I was happy in England and it showed in my game. Now I am in Madrid and it also shows.”
The midfielder is on duty with Croatia as they bid for a place in the World Cup, facing Iceland in European qualifying’s two-legged play-offs this month.
“The conditions [of -1 degree Celsius and 40km/h winds] will be the same for them as they will be for us. We know that we have not played well in the past, so we want to make the Croatian people happy.
“Honestly, the qualification depends on us, on what we do. We know that several of the Icelandic players are very dangerous, such as Sigurdsson, Sigthorsson and Gudjohnsen is an old fox.
“If they finished second in their group it is because they are good.”
We are not sure what his former team-mate Gudjohnsen would think about him calling him an 'old fox' but it is good to finally see him on top form in La Liga.
