Joel Campbell is on form at Olympiakos this term, and with the Gunners needing cover up front should he be brought back to north London?

One of Arsenal’s transfer priorities in January will be the solution of their striking dilemma.

Olivier Giroud is the only recognised number nine in Arsene Wenger’s squad that is trusted to play, with the France international looking fatigued as a result.

Nicklas Bendtner has made substitute cameos on occasion, but is out of form and lacks fitness.

The Arsenal fans are keen to see the back of the Denmark international, who recently admitted that he is eager to leave the Emirates Stadium as soon as possible.

The north London club have been linked with moves for countless forwards with the transfer window around the corner, but they may well have the solution on their books already.

Joel Campbell has been sent to Greek side Olympiakos on loan for the season, and has had an excellent couple of months in eastern Europe.

The Costa Rica international’s latest rave review come from the weekend, where he got two assists and scored once in the clash against PAOK.

Olympiakos are unbeaten domestically this season, winning 10 of their 11 Super League games. Campbell has played his part in this, netting three times and providing seven assists – the most in the division.

The Central American had previously been farmed out on loan to give him first-team football experience and due to work permit problems.

However, Campbell was granted a British work permit in the summer, and as such is eligible to play for Arsenal if Wenger wants him to.

With Bendtner on his way out, should Arsenal do the necessary to recall Campbell in January?

There is no doubt that the Arsenal fans would prefer to have an up-and-coming star who is hungry to prove himself in the squad rather than a player with an ego that wants to leave.

Campbell would certainly be a better option than Bendtner as Giroud’s understudy, but bringing him back to England could well halt his progress, as he is playing regularly and excelling in Greece.

Whether he is ready to play centre forward regularly also remains to be seen. Campbell’s natural position seems to be as a forward, but the Arsenal man has predominantly been used as a winger his season in Greece.

Whether he is recalled or not, it appears that Arsenal have a very promising star on their books in the form of Campbell.
