The top five goals in Europe: Including an ex-Manchester United man and a ‘keeper

Juventus 2

Beginning a new feature on HITC Sport, we bring you the five best goals from Europe this weekend...unless you have other ideas.

Starting today and continuing every Monday, HITC Sport will bring you what we think are the top five strikes from the weekend’s matches.

Hopefully you will agree with our choices, but if you don’t, tell us who we missed.

Tolo Barcelo for UE Alcudia v Real Mallorca B

Asmir Begovic recently joined the ranks of that rare breed of goal-scoring ‘keeper. But the Stoke man’s effort was nothing compared with Tolo Barcelo’s strike for Alcudia in Spain’s Tercera Division.

With Real Mallorca B on their way to a 1-0 victory, the goalkeeper joined his teammates for their final attack of the game. But while similar cases usually end in a frantic breakaway and the fans yelling for a long-range shot, Barcelo scored…with a bicycle kick!

Diego Capel for Sporting Lisbon v Benfica

This is not the only goal from this match that makes the list, and neither is it the best, but the Spanish winger’s sublime finish is a goal you can watch over and over again.

With Sporting Lisbon trailing 1-0 to Benfica in the Portuguese cup, Eduardo Wilson swung over a deep cross that Diego Capel met with a sublime volley that crashed into the top corner.

Oscar Cardozo for Benfica v Sporting Lisbon

The Paraguay striker was the stand-out performer in a stand-out match, robbing Capel of the goal-of-the-game as well as the victory.

Cardozo netted a hat-trick but it was his third goal that makes this list.

Receiving a square ball on the edge of the area and with his back to goal, he curled it first time into the top corner of the net. Rarely has a hat-trick been completed with such power and accuracy.

Paul Pogba for Juventus v Napoli

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is 20-years-old. And that fact alone is terrifying when you consider how good he could ultimately become.

The Frenchman added to his collection of impressive strikes with the final goal in Juventus’s 3-0 victory against Napoli yesterday. Flicking the ball in the air he proceeded to volley it past Pepe Reina as if he was on the training pitch.

Hakim Ziyech for Heerenveen v RKC Waalwijk

The two Dutch sides served up something of a goal-fest on Friday evening, with Heerenveen winning 5-2.

But of all the goals scored, it was the penultimate one from Hakim Ziyech that could just be the best Europe has seen in recent days.

While the headlines were taken by Alfred Finnbogason – a reported target of a number of English clubs and a man who netted a hat-trick in the victory – it was his 20-year-old teammate who put quite the full-stop on the performance.

Intercepting a misplaced pass, Ziyech chipped the opposing ‘keeper from over 40 yards to take some of the plaudits if not the match ball.

What do you think of our choices? From the next round of domestic matches onwards, if you see a goal that deserves to be included in future lists, tweet us @hitcsport.
