Defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal over the weekend appear to have strengthened Chelsea’s title credentials in the eyes of the bookies, as they are the only team where the odds on a Premier League title win haven’t lengthened.
Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United have also seen odds drift with certain bookmakers, surprising in the case of United considering their 1-0 victory over Arsenal yesterday.
The manner of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against West Brom suggests it’s a little surprising that their odds haven’t lengthened in the betting market but the Blues’ odds have even stabilised or in the case of Ladbrokes, shortened.
The odds are as follows.
Manchester City (Favourites at 11/4)
Arsenal and Chelsea (Joint second favourites at 7/2)
Manchester United (5/1)
City as the favourites is a little surprising considering they are now eighth, six points off Arsenal in first place and just off the back of their fourth Premier League defeat this season.
However, they have one of the best squads in the Premier League, with plenty expecting them to turn round a poor start to the season.
Are the bookies getting it wrong? We’ll just have to wait and see.
