Messi injury 'concerns' Argentina boss

The Barcelona man has picked up a thigh strain, something that is worrying the national team coach.

Argentina national team boss Alejandro Sabella has confirmed Lionel Messi won’t join up with the squad this week, and has admitted that he is ‘concerned’ by the Barcelona man’s injury. The Blaugrana record-breaker had been named in Argentina’s squad for friendlies with Ecuador and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the United States over the next two weeks.

However, the coach has confirmed that the 26-year-old is now out of contention after picking up a suspected thigh strain during the Spanish side’s league win at Real Betis on Sunday night.

'We have spoken, it is certainly a tear. We will have to wait for his recovery. He has been ruled out,' Sabella told reporters.

'I am concerned that it is in the same place. I’m not a specialist, but I am worried when players get injured in the one place. We have to be optimistic and calm.'

Messi is confirmed by Barca as having damaged the femoral biceps of his left leg. Previous struggles this season have come with the same muscle in his right leg.
