Manchester City latest: Move for Spanish target unlikely; defender bemoans away form

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

The fall-out from Manchester City’s defeat to Sunderland continues, with Pablo Zabaleta saying the Blues have to improve their away form quickly…or forget about reclaiming the league title.

In quotes published in the Manchester Evening News, the defender said, “There is a long way to go and we have too many games to the end, but when you lose points like that it will be really difficult to fight for the title.”

The Argentine also bemoaned the timing of the international break, claiming that when bad results are suffered the best thing is to overcome them quickly. But this time, City’s players will have to wait awhile to get back to winning ways domestically.

In transfer news, the Express reports that Malaga are confident are keeping hold of reported City target Sergi Darder.

The 19-year-old is also reportedly attracting the attention of Tottenham, but the report claims Malaga see the player with a £33.5million release-clause as integral to their future.

And finally, the Daily Mail reports that former City player Courtney Meppen-Walter has a two-week trial with Carlisle United following his release from prison.

The former England under-18 captain was imprisoned following a road traffic collision that led to two fatalities.

Carlisle manager Graham Kavanagh said of the now 19-year-old, “We all deserve a second chance. He seems a lovely lad. He is remorseful about what has happened.

Courtney is a young man who has made a mistake and hopefully people can forgive him and can move forward.”
