Napoli suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Scudetto rivals Juventus and Partenopei boss Rafa Benitez demanded answers from his side after the game.
The Azzurri travelled to Turin high on confidence after an excellent start to the campaign, which has seen them emerge as genuine title contenders.
The occasion was always going to be heated and some pre-game verbal sparring between Benitez and opposite number Antonio Conte upped the ante.
Conte insisted that if Napoli didn't win the title, Benitez would feel he had failed. The Spaniard hit back by saying that a club as rich as the Bianconeri had to be favourites.
On the evening, Juve struck after just two minutes courtesy of Fernando Llorente and Napoli's game plan seemed to fall apart.
Andrea Pirlo doubled the advantage before a magnificent Paul Pogba half-volley added gloss to the score-line and insult to injury for Benitez.
Napoli felt aggrieved at some of the officiating and striker Gonzalo Higuain used Twitter to vent his frustration.
Alongside a photo of a challenge on him by Angelo Ogbonna, he lamented: 'The first goal was offside and here I was penalised when it should've been a penalty.'
According to Italian newspaper Il Mattino, Benitez was more angry with his team for their performance than with the referee.
After the final whistle, the ex-Liverpool boss kept Napoli in their dressing room for over an hour during which he allegedly criticised his team's attitude and execution of their strategy, insisting that Pepe Reina had been to thank for keeping the score down.
