A round up of key news stories about Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur fell to their third league defeat of the season, as they went down 1-0 at home against Newcastle United. A single goal from Newcastle striker Loic Remy was enough to take the match away from Spurs.
Tottenham fans reacted furiously to the result after the game, taking to social media site Twitter. Several fans were angry about the nature of the side’s performance and their inability to force their way back into the game.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas says striker Jermain Defoe is not for sale. Defoe has been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane with West Ham United and a move to the MLS mentioned as possible destinations but AVB says he doesn’t think the forward will leave.
In players that could be coming to the club, spurs continue to be linked with a January move for Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, while reports today have suggested a possible swoop for Southampton star Luke Shaw.
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been given a couple more days to recover from a blow to the head last weekend. The Frenchman was replaced by Brad Friedel as Spurs lost at home to Newcastle United.
“We've continued to monitor Hugo all week and after discussions, Andre and the medical department have agreed to afford the player a couple more days rest,” said head of medical services Wayne Diesel.
Defender Kyle Naughton says he believes the club can still win the Premier League title. Spurs are currently trailing Arsenal at the top of the Premier League but Naughton believes a title challenge is still on the cards.
“I cannot see why we cannot challenge for the title,” he said.
In a more random story from the weekend, Erik Lamela has been moaning about life in London due to not being able to get curtains for his London flat.
“I was in a hotel but now I’m in an apartment - The only problem is there are no curtains. I have been promised them for the last couple of weeks,” said the £30 million arrival from Roma last summer.
