After Tim Krul proved Tottenham's undoing today, what did the fans think?
Newcastle United won 1-0 at White Hart Lane earlier today courtesy of a single strike from Loic Remy. But that only tells part of the story, with the Magpies’ goalkeeper Tim Krul in outstanding form to deny Tottenham time and again.
As the home side pushed forward in the hope of securing an equaliser, Krul had other ideas, pulling off 14 saves – the most by any Premier League ‘keeper in six seasons.
A quick looked on whoscored.com shows the 25-year-old Dutchman was awarded a 10 for his performance, a feat put into perspective when you consider the next highest-rated player was Yoan Gouffran with 8.12.
In short, were it not for Krul, this afternoon’s result would have been very different.
The performance will go down as one of the Dutchman’s best, and will no doubt have his numerous suitors wondering if they can tempt Alan Pardew’s side into business in the future.
But given the Magpies’ resurgence, and Krul’s allegiance, they would probably be wise to keep their chequebooks in their pockets.
At a time when goalkeepers – or specifically Joe Hart – have been in the headlines for their mistakes rather than their ability, it is refreshing that when Krul wakes up tomorrow, he will have made the news for the right reasons.
Following his outstanding performance, we took to Twitter to see what the fans thought, and you can read a selection below:
