Liverpool could sit back and enjoy themselves today, having done their work in yesterday’s impressive 4-0 victory over Fulham at Anfield.
After the visitors opened the scoring at the wrong end, with an own goal from Fernando Amorebieta, Martin Skrtel doubled the Reds’ lead before Luis Suarez made it three with less than half the match gone.
However there was to be just one more strike – again from Suarez – to seal his brace and a comfortable win for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Speaking after the match, the Liverpool manager said his team had taken massive strides since his appointment.
“When I first came here there was a real vulnerability, nervousness around the group ahead of these games for some reason,” he told the BBC.
“But now the mentality is good, the focus is good and we are becoming relentless in these types of games and that is what Liverpool is about. You have to give massive credit to the players.”
Rodgers also eased fears that Steven Gerrard would be injured for the upcoming international fixtures.
“I haven’t spoken to the medical team, but he should be fine,” Rodgers said.
Speaking of Gerrard, the Liverpool captain has revealed that he voted for Suarez in the race to win the Ballon d’Or.
In quotes published in the Metro, the midfielder said, “I voted for him in my top three. I think everyone knows how much I rate him. I think we are very lucky to have him and we have to enjoy him while he’s here.”
