Liverpool to move quickly for Hughes and Southampton man on Rodgers’ radar - report

A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool

Derby County’s Will Hughes has been linked with a switch to Liverpool for some time, and if reports in the Sun are to be believed, the Reds may not even wait until the next transfer window to get their man.

The newspaper claims Brendan Rodgers will attempt to tie up a deal for the teenage midfielder quickly, in order to prevent his club from being gazumped by another of the reported interested parties – including Arsenal and Manchester United.

A fee of £12million is being regularly touted for a player who has impressed considerably in the Championship this season with every facet of his game.

With one youngster possibly arriving, another is set to leave – at least temporarily – with the Sunday People reporting that Raheem Sterling could move on loan to Swansea City.

The player is reportedly keen on the move as he sees it as a chance to force his way into Roy Hodgson’s World Cup plans.

And finally, the Mirror reports that both the Reds and Arsenal are monitoring the progress of Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez.

The 24-year-old is said to be seen by Rodgers as a potential long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, should the Uruguayan leave. While Arsenal are in need of another striker and see the new England man as a good option.

Given Rodriguez’s progress at the Saints, I cannot see this one happening, at least for some time.
