Montoya's agent confirms full-back wants to stay in Spain

Liverpool’s attempts to bring Martin Montoya to Anfield hang in the balance after the full-back’s agent revealed he wants to stay at Barcelona.

The Reds appeared set to seal the highly-rated full-back’s signature, beating off interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich for the 22-year-old.

Montoya has made just three starts for Barcelona this season, and with his contract expiring next summer Liverpool were hoping to sign him on a free transfer.

However, Montoya’s agent, Jose Maria Orobitg, says the player has no thoughts of leaving the Nou Camp.

"He has a few more months left on his contract with the Catalan club and is thinking about giving the maximum for [coach] Tata Martino, concentrating on carving out a spot at Barcelona," said Orobitg.

“With the club we are talking about a renewal, but there is nothing yet as the situation is a little complicated.

“At the moment it is too soon to talk about a possible transfer in January. We will evaluate the situation more as we move forward.”
