Confirmed - Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United line-ups - Friedel, Eriksen start

Tottenham will be looking to cut the gap on Arsenal while Newcastle can go level with Manchester United, kick-off from White Hart Lane at 12:00 GMT.

Tottenham Hotspur starting team: Friedel, Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson, Chiriches, Paulinho, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Townsend, Soldado

Subs: Gomes, Kaboul, Lennon, Lamela, Holtby, Defoe, Sandro

Newcastle United starting team: Krul, Debuchy, Williamson, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon, Sissoko, Tiote, Cabaye, Gouffran, Shola Ameobi, Remy

Subs: Elliot, Coloccini, Anita, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Ben Arfa, Cisse

This is an important match for both teams but more so for Tottenham following a disappointing 0-0 draw against Everton last weekend.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has urged the White Hart Lane crowd to create a more intimidating atmosphere at home, so it’s vital Spurs start the game well and attack positively from the outset.

Newcastle go into this game with plenty of confidence following the win they secured against Chelsea last weekend.

Newcastle are one of the most frustrating teams to watch in the Premier League because they are capable of producing that sort of win, but strive for the consistency needed to challenge for one of the top four places.

An interesting stat from the season so far is that Spurs have the lowest goals scored count in the top 11 in the Premier League but they also have the joint best defensive record with Southampton, having conceded just five goals.
