Chelsea weekend round-up: Two key first teamers linked with exits

A round up of the key news stories about Chelsea this weekend.

Chelsea fans have reacted well to Eden Hazard’s return to the side against West Brom. The Belgian started yesterday after he was dropped for the Champions League match against FC Schalke, Hazard won an injury time penalty that enabled the Blues to grab a 2-2 draw.

Jose Mourinho says the matter which saw Hazard dropped last week is over and he’s moved on, praising the composure that the player showed as he took that penalty kick yesterday.

Jose Mourinho has hinted that Cesar Azpilicueta will continue at left-back. The Spaniard has done a decent job in the role, with Ashley Cole relegated to the subs bench.

“Azpilicueta is playing very well - I didn't like his [Cole's] performance against Newcastle so made a change and the answer from Azpi was good and I didn't feel I had any reason to leave him out,” Mourinho told West London Sport.

In transfer news, reports suggest that the Blues will make a £20 million offer for left-back Alberto Moreno. The Sevilla left-back has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but Chelsea are also thought to be keen with Moreno a possible replacement for Ashley Cole.

A player who could be leaving the club is forward Demba Ba with fresh reports suggesting Arsenal will make a new approach to try and sign the striker. The Daily star has reported that the Gunners will make a £15 million bid for Ba when the January transfer window opens.

FC Schalke youngster Max Meyer looks set for a long stay in Germany. The teenager was suggested as a possible purchase for the blues at the back end of last season but he’s said he’s keen to stay with his current club.

“I feel very comfortable at Schalke. I trust the coach and the board. My contract runs until 2017. The talks are very good and I hope that an agreement is reached, I think this year,” said the youngster.

Anderlecht managing director Herman Van Holsbeeck has claimed that his club would be interested in taking Chelsea star Kevin De Bruyne on loan over the second half of the season.

“Kevin could come to Anderlecht in January. It’s not an easy deal, but it is something we are investigating. The World Cup being next year makes this possible – he wants regular football so he makes the competition,” he told Laatste Nieuws.

Chelsea trio Patrick van Aanholt, Lucas Piazon and Christian Atsu all had notable performances this weekend for loan side Vitesse Arnhem. Vitesse won 3-1 against FC Utrecht to move top of the Eredivisie, with Atsu grabbing a goal from the penalty spot.
