With both north London sides in the market for a deadly striker, a goal machine in the Eredivisie is starting to make a name for himself.
With both Arsenal and Tottenham reportedly in the market for a new striker come the January transfer window, a host of names from around the world of football have been linked with a switch to north London.
However, the latest goalscoring prodigy in the Eredivisie should be someone on their respective radars.
Iceland international forward Alfred Finnbogason netted a hat-trick in Heerenveen’s 5-2 victory over RKC Waalwijk on Friday night to take his tally for the season to 14 goals in 11 games.
The top scorer in Holland’s top flight, Finnbogason has been linked with moves to a number of European clubs of late and has been steadily getting better and better over recent months.
The 24-year-old made his name in Sweden in a loan spell at Helsingborg, scoring 12 goals in 17 games to earn himself a move to Heerenveen last summer.
The Scandinavian’s predatory nature was on show in Holland last term, with 24 goals in his debut season with the Eredivisie club. With Finnbogason continuing where he left off this term, it seems like only a matter of time before he is snatched up by a side in one of Europe’s top leagues.
The talented attacker has also played his part in Iceland reaching the play-offs for a place in next summer’s World Cup.
The Eredivisie is a source of a lot of talented for Premier League sides, and there is no reason to think that Finnbogason could not make a name for himself in England.
West Ham, Aston Villa and Newcastle have all been linked with a move for Finnbogason over the last month, and with Heereneveen in no position to refuse a substantial offer, the Iceland international could well be on his way to the Premier League.
For Arsenal and Tottenham, both are looking for a player that can convert chances and that will be predominantly a back-up to a main striker in their current teams, with the potential to develop.
With countryman Gylfi Sigurdsson at White Hart Lane, Spurs will have inside knowledge on the forward that is taking the Eredivisie by storm.
With Finnbogason thought to be available for around £5 million, he could well be an affordable option for both London sides.
