Borussia Dortmund fell to a second defeat in four days in a shock loss against Wolfsburg.
Jurgen Klopp saw his Borussia Dortmund side fall four points behind Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga as Wolfsburg compounded a miserable week for the German giants.
Dortmund went into this afternoon’s match looking to react after defeat in the Champions League and they struggled, forcing just two shots on target despite having the majority of possession.
Much talked about Manchester United and Chelsea target Neven Subotic was taken off in the 44th minute of the game with an injury but that didn’t seem to affect Klopp’s men as Arsenal target Marco Reus scored a superb free kick to give Dortmund a 1-0 half-time lead.
However, they weren’t able to hang onto that narrow advantage as goals from Ricardo Rodriguez and former Bayern Munich man Ivica Olic saw Wolfsburg stretch ahead over the second 45 minutes to secure the points.
Dortmund named a typically strong side which included plenty of attacking talent in Robert Lewandowski, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Nuri Sahin and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but they looked flat at times, perhaps still a little rattled from that defeat to Arsenal.
It’s the first time Dortmund have failed to win in back-to-back matches since fixtures against Rafa Benitez’ Napoli and FC Nuremburg in mid-September.
