January is a funny time of year – one big move can catalyse a whole wave of transfers in a domino effect. Hypothetically, of course…
Real Madrid are heavily linked with a move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez due to the recent dip in form of Karim Benzema who looks most likely to exit the Bernabeu and head for the Emirates with Arsenal.
The Gunners are reportedly resigned to losing Bacary Sagna who could very return to his native France with Monaco where rumours have emerged that Radamel Falcao is unsettled and eyeing a move to Real Madrid.
The Los Blancos are no strangers to spending and following the arrival of Gareth Bale and Isco this summer, Angel Di Maria is expected to make way. The Argentine midfielder is linked with a move to Manchester United where, low and behold, Shinji Kagawa is also unhappy at his lack of opportunity in David Moyes’ side.
The Japan international could very return to his former club Borussia Dortmund who are themselves in a bit of a pickle with striker Robert Lewandowski who has hinted he could make a move to the Premier League – his most likely destination is Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
The Blues have something of a striker goal drought at the moment and the £50 million man Fernando Torres is linked with another reunion with his favourite boss Rafael Benitez at Napoli where playmaker Marek Hamsik is a top target of Manchester United as they look for more creativity in midfield.
The Red Devils, however, also have another unhappy camper in Javier Hernandez who is barely getting a look in since Robin van Persie arrived at Old Trafford. The Mexican striker is understood to be a target of Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas who is not exactly in the good books of Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Spurs striker has had a tough year and after being linked this summer with Galatasaray he could make a move to the Turkish outfit to reunite with his coach at Manchester City, Roberto Mancini. Galatasaray might well find themselves in need of a replacement striker for Burak Yilmaz who is another top target linked with Chelsea.
The Blues’ boss is playing hardball but it looks increasingly likely playmaker Juan Mata will be sold with Paris Saint-Germain hot on the Spaniard’s heels. PSG forward Ezequiel Lavezzi could be the outgoing party making his way to White Hart Lane after a number of rumours he could join Spurs.
Meanwhile, Spurs striker Jermaine Defoe is trying to work his way in Roy Hodgson’s England squad and has hinted he could return to West Ham where coach Sam Allardyce has admitted the Hammers may be powerless to stop Manchester United buying back England U21 starlet Ravel Morrison.
One player almost certainly on his way out of Old Trafford is Nani who has been a long-term target for Italian champions Juventus where new striker signing Fernando Llorente is worried about his lack of playing time ahead of the World Cup.
The Spain international has been linked with Liverpool prior to his move from Athletic Bilbao and he could be just the kind of striker Brendan Rodgers could look to bring in at Anfield where Martin Skrtel has caught the eye of Zenit St Peterburg.
Zenit have their own striker struggling with form and the Brazilian will want to do all he can to get a call for the home nation next summer – Hulk has been a long-term target for Chelsea and could be perfect upgrade on Demba Ba who could provide an adequate replacement for Christian Benteke who is linked with a move to replace Lewandowski at Borussia Dortmund.
The German leaders are also worried about Barcelona’s interest in Ilkay Gundogan. The Catalans, however, are rumoured to be open to offloading Alexis Sanchez who, strangely enough, has been a long-term target linked with Liverpool.
