'Next Xavi' set for stardom as Arsenal, Spurs take interest

Sergi Samper has been touted as the next Xavi and the North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur haven’t let that go unnoticed.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer of the player and has kept a close eye on him since late 2010, nearly 3 years ago now. Andre Villas-Boas is new to the race for the 18-year-old midfielder, who he hopes to ‘woo’ to join him for his Tottenham revolution.

The midfielder has been a prominent star for Spain at various levels, and the first time he was known widely to the England supporters was for his performance against England under-17s in March 2012 where he was MOTM as Spain tore England to shreds in a 4-0 win. The England team had players like Southampton starlet Luke Shaw, Arsenal’s promising striker Chuba Akpom and the highly rated Derby County midfielder Will Hughes, collectively the group of young England stars gushed over the Young Barcelona star on twitter.

More recently, the player has been promoted to the Segunda Division side Barcelona B, where he has carried on winning the plaudits for his performances.

What Type of player is he

The tall midfielder is an awkward looking player and his stature could be likened to Manchester City star, and former Barcelona player Yaya Toure.

The deep-lying midfielder will often come looking for the ball, and then move to play forward, as he looks to be the instigator of attacks.

The technique he has on the ball is unbelievable both in the touch and the pass, he makes the game look ridiculously easy and seems to have mastered 360° vision, he always knows where he is on the pitch which is an incredible talent for such a young player.

He is incredibly intelligent, naturally gifted player who looks like he would have no problem weighting a pass 50 yards onto the end of a needle, he is that good.

What could he be

If Barcelona have any sense (which, I’m sure they do) they will look to hang onto this once in a lifetime star, he could be the next-generation for a side looking to assert another decade of dominance over the rest of Europe.
