Match to be played on Saturday 9th November 2013 at 15:00. Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.
Chelsea head into this weekend’s game against West Brom looking to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to just two points.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be pleased with his side’s performance in their win against FC Schalke in the Champions League, especially with Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba getting onto the score sheet.
Mourinho has a couple of selection issues to work through, such as whether to bring Eden Hazard back into the side after the Belgian midfielder was dropped for missing training earlier this week.
Here is the side Mourinho might select.
GK – Petr Cech
It would be a major surprise if Cech didn’t start this game in goal. He’s been a very consistent goalkeeper for a long period and his ability to make saves and command his defence doesn’t need to be sold.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
The Serbian has been a reliable player for Mourinho this season and he’s turned himself into the primary right-back at the club. Ivanovic should slot in on the right hand side of defence.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill is a very solid defender and someone who can be effective for the Blues in this match in different ways. He’s a solid player in the air and he’s quick across the turf, which makes him a good player to have, covering all situations.
CB – David Luiz
With this match coming so soon after the Schalke game, John Terry may be told to take a rest with David Luiz coming into the back four. Don’t be surprised to see the Brazilian his typical self in this game.
LB – Ashley Cole
Cole should come in on the left hand side of the defence. He’s one of the most experienced defenders that Chelsea have and he’s very useful when it comes to getting forward quickly to support the midfield and attack.
RM – Andre Schurrle
The German has done well since he arrived at Chelsea and he’s forced his way into the first team. He’s good enough to control whichever side of the pitch he finds himself on. He may start right but could end up on the left.
DM – Ramires
The Brazilian should take up his normal role in front of the back four. He’ll read the play, try to intercept the ball and he’ll put in challenges, trying to break things up to stop West Brom from building any pressure.
CM – Frank Lampard
Lampard played the last ten minutes against Schalke but he should play the full 90 here. He’ll be fresh and his ability to make runs all over the midfield and attack is something West Brom will need to pay close attention to.
AM – Oscar
Oscar did a very good job against Schalke so he should stay in the number ten position, just in behind the main striker. He’s a player who can create a chance for one of his teammates in a split second.
LM – Eden Hazard
Hazard should have learned his lesson from being dropped from the Schalke game, if Mourinho feels that’s the case then he should start on the left because he’ll be fresh for not having played against the German team.
ST – Samuel Eto’o
Eto’o will be better for the brace he bagged against Schalke. He’s got loads of experience when it comes to leading an attack and his movement all over the West Brom defensive line is something that could see him maintain his goalscoring form.
