Could Stuttgart playmaker Alexandru Maxim be the next Gheorghe Hagi? Liverpool fans will hope so, having been linked with a move for the Romanian
Liverpool are gearing up for a top four challenge, and manager Brendan Rodgers looks set to try and strengthen his squad in January. Romanian playmaker Alexandru Maxim has been strongly linked with a £6m move from Stuttgart, but what could the Anfield faithful expect from Maxim?
Having started his career in his native Romania, Maxim moved to Spain aged just 17, signing for Espanyol, only to predominantly feature in the B team.
After an unsuccessful loan spell with Badalona, Maxim returned to Romania with Pandurii Targu Jiu. Whilst with the club, Maxim rejuvenated his career and earned his first international cap in 2012, and has been a star under Victor Piturca ever since.
His great form for club and country resulted in a €1.5m switch to Stuttgart in January, and he has gone on to become a key player for the Bundesliga side, starting all but two games this season.
Maxim generally plays as an attacking midfielder behind Vedad Ibisevic for Stuttgart, but can also play on the flanks. Maxim is skillful in possession and is always looking to create chances, as seen by his six assists in just nine Bundesliga games this season.
Maxim has been compared to fellow Romanian Gheorghe Hagi by some, which is immense praise for the 23 year old. Hagi was a star with Steaua Bucharest, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Galatasaray, whilst he also racked up 125 caps for his country. Should Liverpool land Maxim, they will be hoping he has a similar impact.
Would Maxim be value for money at £6m? Should Liverpool be targeting a bigger name?
