Napoli coach Rafa Benitez is urging his club's sporting director to reunite him with Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport state.
Benitez's side have had a great start to the season and are emerging as Scudetto contenders as well as harbouring hopes of Champions League progress.
But Napoli are lacking defensive options after injuries to Giandomenico Mesto and Juan Camilo Zuniga, which could push them into the market in January in search of reinforcements.
In this morning's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport there are reports that Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon is eyeing Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea, a player that Benitez is keen to work with again after impressing him during his spell at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old has struggled for first-team football under Jose Mourinho, making just three Premier League appearances this term, and although the player has claimed in the press that he believes he will get his chance, he may not be willing to wait much longer.
La Gazzetta insists that a transfer to Napoli would make sense for Azpilicueta, who is looking to strengthen his case for a place at the World Cup next summer and that he would be a logical fit for Napoli.
Napoli are known to have money to spend after club President Aurelio De Laurentiis announced a £100m budget for signings last summer, which was not used up ahead of this season.
