A select round-up of morning news relating to Manchester United...

David Moyes will wake up this morning wondering what might have been, after his Manchester United side missed the chance to take a huge step towards the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

A 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad kept United top of their group, but Javier Hernandez missed from six yards, while Robin van Persie spurned the chance to score from the penalty spot, having already hit the woodwork earlier in the match.

Moyes’s frustration was further confounded by Marouane Fellaini’s late dismissal for a second booking.

Speaking after the match, Moyes said, “At the moment we’re still top of the group in a good position.

But when you get games like this you need to take your chances, and we missed a big opportunity to win.”

In other news, United reportedly face competition from Juventus for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.

United have been linked with a move for the defensive midfielder who has a €45million release-clause. But now Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims Juventus have sent a delegation to Lisbon to scout the player, and collect as much information as they can before potentially making a move.

United have had dealings with the Italian giants both on and off the pitch in the past, most recently when Paul Pogba opted to move to Turin over renewing his contract at Old Trafford.
