Manchester United latest: Real Sociedad reaction and Rooney on Arsenal

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United drew 0-0 away at Real Sociedad in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

David Moyes ‘rues’ United’s ‘missed chances’ in the fixture, despite United remaining top of their group.

"When you get games like this, you need to take your chances and we missed a big opportunity to win," Moyes said.

United winger Ashley Young has been accused of cheating by ‘diving’ to earn the Red Devils a penalty at the Anoeta Stadium.

However, David Moyes refused to criticise Young, despite pundits Ray Wilkins and Roy Keane accusing the England international of ‘conning’ the referee.

"I thought there were some strange decisions all night and that was another one of them," Moyes said.

"I have seen it again. The boy tugs him in the box. The referee is two yards away from it and decides to give it. He's got a penalty kick for a decision tonight. I don't know about his reputation but the referee is there and he gave it. The referee made decisions all night. He's the one who saw fit to award a penalty and send a player off. I thought the referee made the decision and that was the referee's choice."

Robin van Persie took the penalty awarded and missed, hitting the post instead of the back of the net and Marouane Fellaini eared himself a red card after a second yellow for a rash tackle on David Zurutuza in the closing stages of the game.

Rio Ferdinand believes Fellaini’s dismissal was ‘harsh’.

“Felli won a lot of balls in midfield and was maybe a little bit unfortunate with the sending off,” said the United veteran.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney doubts Arsenal will win the Premier League title this term ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Gunners at Old Trafford.

"We'll have to wait and see where Arsenal are in March,” explained the England number 10.

"We've seen before that they've been in the top two until February or March and then faded away. They are doing brilliantly at the minute, so it's down to them to try and stay there and us to catch them."

"We're obviously capable of beating Arsenal. We've done it many times in the past,” he added.

In other news, youngster Adnan Januzaj has been voted Player of the Month in a Red Devils fan poll.
