There have been reports circulating in the press this morning that Yohan Cabaye may be the subject of a bid from Liverpool.
For anyone that watched Liverpool’s loss against Arsenal last weekend, they will have seen that midfield was a bit of a problem area for the Reds – though a lot of credit must go to Arsenal for how they controlled the middle of the park, it did highlight that Liverpool lacked a particular bit of steel and bite.
Cabaye seems to have attracted the interest of several clubs who are vying the top positions in a few European leagues this season – that in itself demonstrates the quality he possesses and the regard he is held in.
There are many aspects of his game to admire: his ability to dictate play, find the right man, spot a runner and there’s of course his ability to shoot from long range.
Would any of these help Liverpool? His ability to dictate play could be the big one. A lot of the time Liverpool’s football can look a bit rushed, especially after scoring or conceding a goal. Cabaye looks the type of player who can probably put his football and just take some time out of the game whilst it settles down again, by doing some of the simple stuff.
Luis Alberto looks like a player already on Liverpool’s books who is capable of this, but at the young age of 21, Brendan Rodgers may be reluctant to place that responsibility upon him.
Cabaye also doesn’t look afraid to get involved in the hard graft in the middle of the park, with Lucas the more natural defensive midfielder, Cabaye looks like a player that can fulfil this role and it Liverpool would at least look as if they have two players who could play in that position.
For now is just a rumour, but if it were to turn into a reality, Liverpool’s midfielder would look a good deal stronger.
