This is an important match for Chelsea considering the defeat they suffered at the hands of Newcastle United last weekend and Jose Mourinho will be confident that his team can pull clear at the top of group E.
Chelsea have recovered well after stuttering at the start of the European competition this season, with back-to-back wins which make that defeat at the hands of FC Basel seem like a distant memory.
The big blow for Chelsea is the unavailability of Fernando Torres who has started to look a lot more like his old self in Chelsea colours so far this season.
For German side Schalke the aim is simple, try to avoid defeat. They go into this game having suffered defeats in two of their last three matches, one against Chelsea before a 3-1 loss at home to Borussia Dortmund.
