Loaned out Liverpool star is targeting the treble this season

Napoli

Pepe Reina says winning the treble with Napoli would make him really happy - could it happen?

Pepe Reina has had an incredible start to his career in Serie A since joining Napoli for a season on loan this summer.

He recently became the first person to save a Mario Balotelli penalty, and he is now being linked with replacing Victor Valdes at Barcelona next summer, as the Catalan stopper looks for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

He has even established himself in the Spain squad, despite serious competition from David De Gea and Diego Lopez.

Liverpool are probably not to seriously affected by news of Reina’s good fortunes, as his replacement Simon Mignolet has been above adequate so far - if anything they will be pleased to see a loyal servant to the club doing well since being asked to move on.

Next season his destination remains unknown, with a return to Liverpool seemingly unlikely and Barcelona hoping to bring him in Reina has insisted he is happy at Napoli.

The club have no plans to bring him in permanently, as they want to start blooding in young Brazilian stopper Rafael from the end of this season - but Reina sounds like he would like to stay, even if it is unlikely.

So with that in mind, he clearly has plans to leave the club with something tangible to remember him by - or, to be more precise, three things.

Speaking to Spanish radio today, the Liverpool loanee has been talking about his hoped of success this season - including a potential treble:

“We have a new Coach, a new style and new players. I am happy at the moment, but I would be even happier if we won the League, Coppa Italia and Champions League!”

The chances of them achieving the feat are actually not that bad. They are the team who have kept up with Roma’s Sebastien Vettel pace atop Serie A this term, the Coppa Italia is always a favourite of the Partenopei and as for the Champions League - well we all know about Rafa Benitez’s success in European competition.

It could be a very successful year for the 31-year-old - a very successful year indeed.
