Arsenal's 'team' goal scored by Wilshere ousted Kasami's and Sturridge's brilliant individual efforts.
October's Premier League games certainly left fans spoilt for choice when picking the best goal in Match of the Day's monthly survey. Despite the competition, fierce viewers allocated Jack Wilshere's goal against Norwich City a huge 50% of the votes, making him the clear winner.
But perhaps it is fairer to label it 'Arsenal's goal', after a series of outstanding one-touch passes and flicks by several players breached the static Norwich defence and left Wilshere to side foot it home. It was a goal that left players, pundits and fans purring.
Yet any other month Pajtim Kasami's once-in-a-lifetime Van Basten-esque volley would have been peerless in its quality. The young Swiss winger was running away from goal as he ran on to a long punt from his defence, and it was impressive enough just to control the ball with his chest at such pace. But he then looped an unstoppable volley, under pressure from a Crystal Palace defender, over Julian Speroni and into the far top corner from the tightest of angles.
Then there was Daniel Sturridge's exquisite chip against West Brom all the way down in third place. After seeing strike partner Luis Suarez grab the headlines with his first hat-trick since returning from suspension, Sturridge proved that he is just as classy a player as the Uruguayan with a brilliant piece of control in order to make space some 25 yards out. What followed was an instinctive chip that sailed over the flailing Boaz Myhill and into the top right corner.
There were plenty of other contenders to choose from as you can see in the list below. Which was your goal of the month?
