In another action packed weekend in the Football League, the loan stars from the Premier League were again at centre stage.
In one of the most highly anticipated games of the weekend, Leicester and Watford went head-to-head in their first meeting since the bizarre ending to the play-off semi-final last season. Josh McEachran took centre stage for Watford in what turned out to be a highly disappointing afternoon for the Hornets, and for McEachran especially.
One of the many players that was heavily criticised after the game, with one fan being remarked as saying ‘playing McEachran is reason enough for Zola to be sacked’ which is an abrupt statement to sentiments of the Chelsea player’s reputation amongst Watford fans.
Another Chelsea player having a bad weekend was highly-rated youngster Nathaniel Chalobah, who had to watch from the bench as Blackpool snapped up a late 1-0 win at the City Ground. The 18-year-old was the talking point of last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Yeovil Town, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.
Backed by myself to come back stronger in what was a key game for Nottingham Forest promotion push, he didn’t even get to make it on the pitch. Named on the bench at the expense of Sunderland midfielder David Vaughan’s first game for the club, he had to watch a pretty uninspiring performance which resulted in Blackpool taking the spoils.
Todd Kane was the bright spark for Chelsea scouts this weekend, putting a good shift in for Blackburn as they went on to beat Middlesbrough 1-0 win. The young full-back was booked mid-way through the first half for ‘unsporting behaviour’ but performed admirably in the side’s clean-sheet.
Derby’s loan players Simon Dawkins and Andre Wisdom were two positives outcomes in their 2-1 away loss to QPR. The bulky Liverpool defender put in another solid shift to the delight of the travelling Derby fans and the Tottenham winger Simon Dawkins got his first ever goal in English league football with a nicely struck finish from inside the box.
The Manchester clubs will have heard very different reviews about their players over the weekend, the highly-rated Manchester City full-back Reece Wabara was at the heart of a 3-1 loss to Brighton where is was culpable for their leaky defensive and having been described as played ‘very poor’.
Manchester United fans will be delighted with their highly-rated young players continuous form as Nick Powell put in another outstanding performance scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 home win against Huddersfield.
