Joe Kinnear seems to have made a fool of himself again after watching a Newcastle loanee in action and then trying to sign him.
Newcastle United Director of Football Joe Kinnear has made another gaffe, the latest in a ling line of embarrassments for the club. As well as a few foul mouthed abusive tirades, and calling players such as Yohan Cabaye, Yohan 'Kebab', Kinnear has now made possibly the most unbelievable mistake of his time at St James' Park.
Supposedly in charge of recruitment for Newcastle, transfer movement has been fairly limited since Joe Kinnear arrived at the club for a second spell. The signing of Loic Remy has obviously proved to be a good one, but he scuppered long-term target Douglas of FC Twente, whom Graham Carr and Alan Pardew had long admired. Douglas eventually went on to join Dynamo Moscow.
On one of his recent scouting mission's, Kinnear went to watch Birmingham City in action against Swansea City in the Capital One Cup. Playing in that match for Birmingham was Northern Irish winger Shane Ferguson, on loan from Newcastle United. Ferguson had a good game for The Blues and Kinnear was impressed. But instead of reporting back to Pardew that they're own player was performing well, he instead spoke to the Blues officials.
He expressed an interest in Ferguson and even enquired as to how much he would cost. Blues officials initially thought he was joking but eventually had to tell Kinnear that he was on loan from Newcastle. This embarrassment further underlines the question over Kinnear's usefulness at The Magpies.
When he arrived in the summer he said he had a "book of contacts second to none, and had a great knowledge of players". Yet he failed to know one of his club's own players. At least Shane Ferguson will be able to see it as a compliment that his is impressing his parent club.
Following this latest error made by Joe Kinnear, Newcastle fans must be hugely annoyed. What exactly is he doing for the club? After scout Graham Carr had been so successful in recruitment recently bringing in a host of foreign talent for bargains, The Magpies seem to be going backwards now in terms of transfers. Why fix something that isn't broken comes to mind. There was no need for a change in this area, but fans are now increasingly frustrated with actions from Kinnear and chairman Mike Ashley as they bring more embarrassment upon the club.
