Senegalese striker Demba Ba only joined Chelsea in January of this year, but could already be on the move again, after failing to establish himself at the club.
He arrived from Newcastle United after Rafa Benitez matched his £7m releases clause, but has only scored two league goals since then. There were reports that he could have left at the end of the summer transfer window, instead Romelu Lukaku left the club joining Everton on loan. Ba was left to compete for the one starting place with £50 million Fernando Torres, and three-time Champions League winner Samuel Eto'o.
Ba has only made two appearances in the league so far this season, and looks set to move on in January either permanently or on loan. Premier League clubs are well aware that the striker can be deadly in this league. He scored seven goals in 12 games for West Ham United before they were relegated. He then joined Newcastle United and after a slow start found his feet and scored 16 goals in his first season, striking up a strong partnership with Papiss Cisse. He then continued his form into the next season and the former Barnsley trialist scored 13 goals in 20 games before moving to Chelsea.
Chelsea could be prepared to sell Ba, in order to then make a move for Robert Lewandowski.
Here are four options for Demba Ba in January:
West Ham United
One of two former clubs who could be vying for Demba Ba's signature in January. With Andy Carroll a long-term injury The Hammers have been short on options up front. It has resulted in Carlton Cole being re-signed, and even Kevin Nolan being used as a striker. Demba Ba was loved at Upton Park as he did his best to keep them up in 2011. It wouldn't be much effort for him to join Chelsea's neighbours and would be able to settle in easily. He may have higher aspirations however, and could see this as a big step back.
Another former club Newcastle United could do with strengthening their forward line, and Alan Pardew would jump at the chance to have the 28-year-old back at the club. Loic Remy is currently the only player at the club scoring consistently with Papiss Cisse currently on a rotten run of form. Shola Ameobi provides the only other option. If a deal could be done then it would again delight the raucous Geordie fans, with Ba providing much entertainment during his time at the club. With minimal spending in the summer The Magpies should easily be able to afford Ba.
Demba has recently been linked to La Liga side Valencia. With Chelsea looking to recoup what they paid for the striker, Valencia would be prepared to pay this in order to try and propel them up the table. Their indifferent form so far this season has led to them sitting in 9th place in the Spanish top flight. They have managed just 15 goals in the 12 league games so far and seem to be struggling without Roberto Soldado. A lot of expectation has been on Helder Postiga and youngster Paco Alcacer.
Arsene Wenger was linked with a summer transfer window move for Ba, but was apparently stopped as Mourinho did not want to let him leave to a title rival. However things may be different now if he wants to be able to move things around in the forthcoming transfer window himself. It is clear Arsenal could do with another striker. Frenchman Olivier Giroud has had a great start to the season, but back-up Nicklas Bendtner has failed to impress yet again and could leave himself. This would probably be the move Demba Ba would want most, given Arsenal's current position in the league. He would obviously want the assurance of more games than he is currently getting, but Wenger could well come back in for the former Hoffenheim player.
