A select round-up of morning news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Vlad Chiriches believes Tottenham Hotspur can win the Premier League title this season.

The summer signing told the Mirror he believes Spurs have got over their slump that saw them lose 3-0 at home to West Ham United.

And as the Lillywhites prepare to face Everton this afternoon, Chiriches said, “Everton are a good team, we know that. But there is enough quality here for us to win the Premier League. I hope, game by game, we will get better.”

There is no doubt today’s early kick-off will be a huge test of Spurs’ title credentials, with Everton performing brilliantly so far under Roberto Martinez.

And one man who will have slightly mixed loyalties today is Lewis Holtby, whose father is an avid Toffees supporter.

The midfielder posted a picture of his father in an Everton strip on his Facebook page in the build-up to the match. But is hoping to disappoint his dad by helping Spurs take all three points at Goodison Park.

And finally, Jermain Defoe’s Spurs future remains in considerable doubt, with both the Sun and the Sunday People reporting that he could soon be on his way out of White Hart Lane.

With a number of MLS clubs reportedly interested in the England striker, and with money apparently available for Andre Villas-Boas to buy a new frontman in January, Defoe may soon be finding the net for another club.
