Remember the name Domenico Berardi? The young Italian was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United about a year ago, as he began to make inroads into the first-team at Sassuolo - a relatively unknown Serie B outfit.
'The interest from Manchester United? The player is followed with great attention by many clubs, including the Red Devils and also Juventus. But there are other Italian and foreign sides who have observed him in recent games. For the moment there has been no concrete contact, so we’re thinking about the present and how to develop Berardi in the best way.
But nowadays they are a Serie A outfit after running away with the league last campaign, and United were surely keeping tabs on the talented player, compared to a young Francesco Totti, as he helped them in that pursuit.
But unfortunately United fans, he has already joined Juventus. He signed a co-ownership deal with the Turin club in September, and will link up with the Bianconeri in 2015.
And today he demonstrated just what United might be missing.
Sassuolo have not exactly had the best baptisms into top-flight Italian football - languishing near the bottom of the table and receiving a thrashing off of Inter Milan recently.
But today they won a seven goal thriller v relegation rivals Sampdoria - with Berardi scoring a hat-trick to earn most the plaudits in the 4-3
Admittedly, two were penalties, but one was to win the game in the 89th minute.
And at 19-years-old to have the confidence and composure to step up and take the kick - that speaks volumes about this talents character.
Unfortunately Juventus will be enjoying it in the future, not Manchester United…
Here are the goals from the game…
