All the news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford this weekend…
Every morning we bring you a round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United, and this weekend was no exception. To read our United-specific morning news you can find our Saturday report here and our Sunday report here.
In one piece of transfer news we did not cover this morning, the Daily Star Sunday reports that United and Manchester City could be about to raid FC Porto for defenders Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi for a combined fee of £65million.
Both clubs have long been linked with Mangala, but the report claims United may now have one less competitor for the Frenchman’s signature with City turning their attentions to reported Chelsea target Otamendi.
Whether the Portuguese champions would sanction moves for two of their defenders (even if Mangala has a release-clause of £40million) remains to be seen…but January is fast approaching so expect the rumour mill to start churning once more in the coming weeks and months.
The Belgian winger gave another impressive performance and is quickly becoming un-droppable.
Another United starlet impressed yesterday, with Nick Powell scoring yet again for loan club Wigan Athletic.
The midfielder netted the winner in a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield, and already has five goals since his summer switch to the DW Stadium.
And finally, Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed in a new book that he signed a contract to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2002.
It has been widely reported that the former England manager was the man chosen to replace Ferguson when he initially chose announced his decision to retire more than a decade ago. But this is the first time the news has been revealed as to how close Eriksson came to replacing him.
