Chelsea have the chance to at least temporarily climb to the top of the Premier League table, should they beat Newcastle United at St James’ Park. But given the Magpies’ last league outing expect them to be fired-up in a bid to forget their derby day embarrassment.
Alan Pardew is unable to call on Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini or Paul Dummett due to injury, while Chelsea have no fresh injury concerns.
After an impressive October, Jose Mourinho will be hoping to keep the momentum going this month and record a seventh straight victory in the process. Newcastle however can take inspiration from last season’s match, when they came from a goal behind to win 3-2 in injury-time.
Given the resurgence of Fernando Torres, and Chelsea’s strength in depth, Newcastle will have to improve their recent defensive record, which is the third worst in the league after Sunderland and Crystal Palace.
What do you think today’s result will be?
