Seven bargain strikers for Wenger to sign for Arsenal in January

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger smashed the Gunners’ transfer record this summer to sign £42.5 million Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

The frugal Frenchman failed, however, in numerous attempts to sign a striker with Olivier Giroud the only real option at the Emirates as the fixtures come thick and fast this season. The boss will be reluctant to dip his hand in his pocket in quite the same manner again so here are eight strikers he could have for less than £10 million.

1) Graziano Pelle

Another guy with a familiar name is this 28-year-old Italian who has scored 10 goals and made two assists in 11 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord in Holland – the same club where a certain departed Dutchman came to Arsenal from.

2) Jelle Vossen

For a valuation of £5.7 million, this 24-year-old Belgian striker has scored 6 goals and made 2 assists for Genk in the Belgian top tier and with the World Cup around the corner next summer, he’ll be vying for a place in Marc Wilmots’ Belgium squad.

3) Facundo Ferreyra

22-year-old Argentine striker Ferreyra has scored 6 goals and made 1 assist in just 6 Premier League appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk so far this season and is presently valued around £5.3 million.

4) Fredy Montero

Over in Portugal, this 26-year-old Colombian is emulating his countryman Radamel Falcao’s career trajectory with his 9 goals in 8 Primiera Liga appearances on loan for Sporting Lisbon and he’s valued at just £4.8 million.

5) Anthony Modeste

We all know Wenger loves a French striker and he couldn’t find one in much better form at present than 25-year-old Hoffenheim frontman Modeste who has scored 6 goals and made 2 assists in 10 Bundesliga appearances. He is valued at £4 million.

6) Pierre-Michel Lasogga

For the same price perhaps he would consider this 21-year-old Germany U21 starlet who has scored 6 goals in 6 Bundesliga appearances on loan for Hamburg this term.

7) Emmanuel Riviere

Another young Frenchman to consider is 23-year-old Monaco striker Riviere who has managed 6 goals in 7 appearances of which 3 were from the bench and none were for 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He might be exactly the kind of addition who could function well as an impact substitute or an alternative to rotate in when Giroud needs a rest. What’s more, he’d be the cheapest of the bunch valued at just £3.1 million.
