Outrage in Brazil over Manchester United target Lucas Moura's omission

Long-time Manchester United target Lucas Moura's lack of regular football at PSG has come back to bite him.

The dream move began so well. Lucas Moura moved to PSG in January and got off to a flier, providing four assists in his first five games.

But a change of manager and approach has not treated the young Brazilian so well, and now his international prospects are taking a hit.

The 21-year-old winger has started just four of 11 games in Ligue 1 this season, and recently had to address his future after rumours in Brazil linked with either a loan or permanent deal away from France.

He said he wanted to stay at PSG and was happy in Paris, but after the latest news he may be willing to reconsider.

His worst fear has come true, he has been dropped from Brazil's World Cup squad, with Chelsea's Willian called up in his place.

The news has not gone down well in his homeland where he is particularly highly regarded. It is the first omission from any national squad since Luiz Scolari took over as manager last year.

Brazilian newspaper Lancenet report how thousands of fans have taken to Twitter to express their anger at Lucas being left out, even creating their own hashtag #OBrasilTeAmaLucasMoura which quickly began trending in Brazil. It adds that many are even cursing Scolari for the decision.

The winger is a long-term target of Manchester United, having been outbid by PSG in the first place, the Red Devils were linked with returning for him earlier this month when discussion of his struggles in France was first raised in his homeland.

If CEO Ed Woodward wants to make an impression with the club's transfer funds, paying for the Brazilian might well be money better spent than on Spaniard Ander Herrera who is also being linked.

For Lucas that is one option, jumping ship. Another is a loan back to Brazil where he can shine in the spotlight on home turf and apply pressure for a World Cup place which Scolari would find increasingly difficult to ignore.

The best option to him at the moment though is focus on the other manager in his life, PSG boss Laurent Blanc. If he can win him over and earn a regular starting spot for the French champions and show his best form, then surely a recall to the Brazil squad will be a formality.
